Catalina CTB Brand Identity

Transforming a relaxing massage into a logo

The Project

When my colleague Catalina announced that she would soon be giving a boost to her passion for massage and that she would like to improve her visual impact and communication, I thought how interesting it would be to work in a context so different from the usual one I was used to.

Catalina currently works in Harlem and Amsterdam, offering different types of massages in the studio and at home. She recently created her new website where she showcases her services, but she needed needed some help to design a logo and a business card that she would later print and distribute to potential new clients.

Our work together began with a casual conversation in which Catalina told me about the gestures she makes with her hands when she gives a massage, how a session is conducted, and the origins of her passion: Each massage is not just a service but an experience, blending moving meditation for her, like a dance, and healing therapy for who receives it.

Another thing that struck me was the way she referred to the sensation of "tickling hands" when she felt the need to give a massage.

I therefore thought it would be interesting to study a pictogram that focused on the image of hands and that had a human aspect, not necessarily linear and homogeneous. I also challenged myself to represent the diversity of movements performed during the massage, which alternate circular and long movements with defined and short pressures on specific points of the body.

As for the choice of colors and typography used, I took inspiration from Catalina's website, in order to ensure consistency with her image.
