(SK)unk is not dead is the name I gave to the illustration I've worked on for the 2024 edition of the contest Sketch your Deck, organised by Bonobolabo in collaboration with MadOne brewery and partnering with ARIA, the AR platform, to then animate the winner illustration.
The brief was a creation of an exclusive graphic to apply both on a skateboard deck and as the label of a limited edition craft beer, using the theme "Punk is not dead"
The jury, Marco Miccoli, creator and curator of Bonobolabo, Tai Yuh Kuo, founding partner of Alkanoids and Aria the AR Platform, and Nicolò Daolio owner of the Mad One brewery, evaluated the projects according to:
My work began with a research phase to identify recurring patterns within punk culture, the ideals, the graphic and clothing style, the most famous punk personalities. However, I wanted my idea to differ from the common representation of a musician with studs and a colored crest.
I then explored different alternatives for the subject of my illustration: I noticed the assonance between the word Punk and Skunk and I thought about how interesting it could be to represent the concept of anarchy, nihilism and rebellion through this animal.
The illustration was slightly modified for the two types of support on which it would be printed, it represents a skeleton of a skunk in the act of opening a beer can. The cloud of green beer foam colour evokes the act of spraying paint while the background pattern evokes the traditional punk clothing with bright and vivid colours.
